Prague Dancing Building
by Antony Wright
A few months ago, I had a trip to Prague. You can believe me, There are a lot of "catching the eye" constructions in Prague- modern and especially medieval. Actually, I am interested in modern architecture. Dancing House - is a nice outstanding modern construction in the center of Prague City. This fabulous building is a creation of famous Canadian architect Frank Owen Gehry and Yugoslavian architect (with Czech citizenship) Vlado Milunich.
The other name given to the building is "Ginger & Fred" after the name of a famous American dancing couple Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The dancing couple was very popular in 30's and 40's years of previous century. In 1986 Federico Fellini directed a drama film where names of the famous dancing team "Ginger and Fred" were taken as the title for the film.
In 1992, influenced by the film architects designed "Dancing House" which was completed in 1996.
I took the shot of the building from a point at the bridge. From that point wavy lines on the front of the "Fred and Ginger" building give an illusion of the motion of the dancing couple. The balcony supported by two pillars in the middle of "Ginger" building makes an illusion of the Fred's wrist placed on the womans waist. The Glass gallery visible above the main building makes an illusion of stretched hand of "Ginger".
Perfect implementation of the nice idea!!!
